The number of tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka went up 9.7% to 79,456 in the month of August 2012, compared to August 2011 which was only 72,463, according to the latest figures released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA).
622,661 tourists arrived in first 8 months of 2012.
Figures showed an increase in the number of arrivals from Western Europe, East Asia and North America.
The number of visitors from Western Europe rose by 8.7 percent (32,656) with tourists from France up 31.4 percent (5,473), Belgium up 1.7 percent (978), the number of visitors from Denmark is 281 and Germany up 27.5 percent (6,162), according to the SLTDA.
Arrivals from East Asia increased 16.9 percent (11,648), with Malaysian arrivals to 1,769, and those from Korea (South) up to 708.
Arrivals from Australasia went up by 19.7 percent to 4,358 within the month of August 2012. The number of visitors from South Africa went up by 27.7 percent to 249.
Tourist arrivals in the country increased sharply from May 2009 after defeating 30 years of terrorism.
