Sri Lanka, China sign agreements to enhance bilateral cooperation

 

Sri Lanka and China have agreed to strengthen bilateral relations between the two states and promote development activities in Sri Lanka through Chinese assistance.

The two countries signed agreements on a wide range of cooperation that covers Infrastructure development in transport, tourism, telecommunications, port development and the funding for several projects including Colombo Lotus Tower Project, Mobile Network Expansion Project and Hambantota Port Development Phase II Project and energy.

Letters of Exchange were also signed for Technical and Support Service for the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Centre for International Studied and the donation of MRI Scanner.

The two countries have also signed three Memoranda of Understanding on Coastal & Marine Cooperation and Finance cooperation.

One MoU sign for a project with Chinese assistance for electrification of the railway linking Veyangoda to Kalutara South.

The MoUs and agreements were signed following bilateral talks between President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Chairman of National People's Congress (NPC) Wu Bangguo, who is currently on a four-day official visit to Sri Lanka, at the Presidential Secretariat today (17).

The Agreements signed are as follows:

Agreement on Mutual Visa exemption for Holders of Diplomatic, Service or Official Passports and Passports for Public Affairs between Sri Lanka and China was signed by the Minister of External Affairs, Prof. G.L. Peris and the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, Mr. Zhang Zhijun.

Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation between the China and Sri Lanka was signed by the Secretary, Ministry of Finance & Planning Dr. P B Jayasundara and the Vice Minister of Commerce, Mr.Li Jinzao.

Framework agreement on Provision of Concessional Loan between Sri Lanka and China was signed by the Secretary, Ministry of Finance & Planning Dr. P B Jayasundara and the Vice Minister of Commerce, Mr.Li Jinzao.

Exchange of Letter for donation of MRI Scanner was signed by the Secretary, Ministry of Finance & Planning Dr. P B Jayasundara and the Vice Minister of Commerce, Mr.Li Jinzao.

Exchange of Letter for Technical and Support Service for the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies was signed by the Secretary, Ministry of Finance & Planning Dr. P B Jayasundara and the Vice Minister of Commerce, Mr.Li Jinzao.

Memorandum of understanding on Coastal & Marine Cooperation was signed by the Secretary to the Ministry of Defense, Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, Mr. Zhang Zhijun.

Memorandum of understanding on Three-Five Year Finance Cooperation Plan was signed by the Secretary, Ministry of Finance & Planning Dr. P B Jayasundara and the Vice Governor of Exim Bank of China, Mr. Zhu Hongjie.

Framework Agreement on Financing Cooperation in the Infrastructure Sector of Sri Lanka was signed by the Secretary, Ministry of Finance & Planning Dr. P B Jayasundara and the Vice Governor of Exim Bank of China, Mr. Zhu Hongjie.

Preferential Buyer’s Credit Loan Agreement on Hambantota Port Development Phase II Project was signed by the Secretary, Ministry of Finance & Planning Dr. P B Jayasundara and the Vice Governor of Exim Bank of China, Mr. Zhu Hongjie.

Government Concessional Loan Agreement on Hambantota Port Development Phase II Project was signed by the Director General of the Sri Lanka Telecommunication Regulatory Authority, Anusha Palpita and Vice Governor of Exim Bank of China, Mr. Zhu Hongjie.

Buyer’s Credit Loan Agreement on Hambantota Port Development Phase II Project was signed by the Director General of the Sri Lanka Telecommunication Regulatory Authority, Anusha Palpita and Vice Governor of Exim Bank of China, Mr. Zhu Hongjie.

Buyer’s Credit Loan Agreement on Colombo Lotus Tower Project was signed by the Director General of the Sri Lanka Telecommunication Regulatory Authority, Anusha Palpita and Vice Governor of Exim Bank of China, Mr. Zhu Hongjie.

Direct Agreement between the Leaders and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority and Colombo International Container Terminal Limited was signed by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) Chairman Dr. Priyath B. Wickrama and Mr.Wang Bingeai, Deputy General Manager of Shenzehn Branch.

Agreement on Mobitel Stage VII Mobitel Network Expansion Project was signed by Mr. Nimal Welgama and Mr.Zhang Sen, Vice President of Southeast Asian Region, Huawei Technologies.

Memorandum of understanding on the Project of Railway Electrification from Veyangoda to Kalutara South was signed by the General Manager, Sri Lanka Railway and Mr. Wang Ji, Chairman of Dongfang Electric Corporation.
