The UPFA councilor Mohamed Najeeb Abdul Majeed, was sworn in as the New Chief Minister for the Eastern Province before President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees yesterday. Majeed was a representative of Trincomalee for the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress earlier in the parliament and served as Minister of Co-operatives. However, SLMC expelled him from the party in 2004 and he subsequently joined the UPFA.
Meanwhile, the former Chief Minister and the leader of the Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP) party Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan was appointed as an Advisor to the President.
