SL addressing demanding issues including reconciliation - Japan


Sri Lanka is focusing and addressing the cogent and demanding issues such as rehabilitation, reconciliation, and resettlement, among others, particularly in the North and East, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Koichiro Gemba said.

In a message to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Sri Lanka, the Japanese Foreign Minister said elaborated economic and commercial advancement of Sri Lanka since the conflict ended in May of 2009, and added that he was impressed of the rate of growth in the country. Further, tourism from Japan to Sri Lanka had increased, markedly, and the Government of Japan wishes to be engaged on all key aspects of Sri Lanka such as cultural, political and economic.

Meanwhile, the Tokyo Bureau of Japan Mint of The Government of Japan printed a 1,000 Rupee Silver Coin to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Sri Lanka, the Sri Lankan embassy in Tokyo said.

The First-Strike of the issuance of the said 1,000 Rupee Commemorative Silver Coin was conducted by Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Japan, Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda; the former Prime Minister of Japan & Honorary Chairman of Japan Sri Lanka Association, Yasuo Fukuda; former Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science & Technology & Chairman of Japan-Sri Lanka Friendship Parliamentarian League, Hirofumi Hirano; and Michiyoshi Yunoki, Vice Minister of Finance, respectively.
