Four more failed asylum seekers to return from Nauru

Four Sri Lankan men detained in Nauru will return home after deciding not to seek asylum in Australia.

The Department of Immigration in Australia said the men were among those who arrived after August 13 and were therefore subject to transfer to a regional processing centre.

“These individuals have chosen not to pursue asylum claims and therefore are no longer seeking to engage Australia’s protection obligations,” a departmental spokesman said in a statement on Saturday.

It brings the total number of Sri Lankans who have asked to return to their country in 2012 to 79, including 47 since the department began transferring people to Nauru.
