The number of tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka went up 18.1% to 71,111 in the month of September 2012, compared to September 2011 which was only 60,219, according to the latest figures released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA).
693,772 tourists arrived in first 9 months of 2012.
Figures showed an increase in the number of arrivals from Western Europe, East Asia and North America.
The number of visitors from Western Europe rose by 15.1 percent (22,327) with tourists from France up 6.4 percent (3,030), Belgium up 9.5 percent (647), the number of visitors from Switzerland is 1,106 and Germany up 46.0 percent (4,942), according to the SLTDA.
Arrivals from East Asia increased 21.4 percent (10,729), with Malaysian arrivals to 1,596, and those from Korea (South) up to 404.
Arrivals from Australasia went up by 45.4 percent to 5,004 within the month of September 2012. The number of visitors from South Africa went up by 202.6 percent to 348.
Tourist arrivals in the country increased sharply from May 2009 after defeating 30 years of terrorism.
