The National Human Resources and Employment Policy (NHREP), a policy document that aims to assure equal opportunity employment for all its citizens was launched yesterday.
Senior Minister of Human Resources presented the first copy of the policy document to President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees yesterday (30) with the participation of Country Director of International Labour Organization for Sri Lanka and Maldives Donglin Li.
The comprehensive policy document, prepared by the Secretariat of Senior Ministers with the technical support of the International Labour Organization, is expected to ensure policy coherence amongst different existing policy documents which have human resources and employment as cross-cutting issues.
The NHREP will also simplify implementation and ensure that targeted interventions are effectively and efficiently carried out.
The National Human Resources and Employment Policy, inter alia, aims to provide productive and freely chosen employment for all men and women in Sri Lanka and promote the labor force to improve their competitiveness and enhance employability.
Following the government's policy frame work for development, Mahinda Chintana Future Vision, the NHREP will provide opportunities for the workers to qualify for and to use their skills without discrimination in a job that is well-suited for them.
The policy will also assure to safeguard the basic rights and interests of workers in compliance with international labor standards and national labor laws.
Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, ministers, parliamentarians and other senior officials also participated in the occasion.
