The Department of Wildlife Conservation has introduced new regulations to protect the natural habitat of the Kalpitiya Bay. The Department has taken the initiative to further protect the natural habitat and biodiversity in the Bay area.
Director of the Department of the Wildlife Conservation, H.D. Ratnayake told the media that the regulations relate to sea mammal habitats.
The whale-watching season in the northwest began in the last week of October and will continue till April next year.
Blue whales, mink whales, dwarf whales, bottlenose dolphins, Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins and Spinner dolphins are known to be found in Kalpitiya Bay.
