Govt to initiate five-year national health plan

The government will set up a five-year national health program from next year to provide and maintain health service according to national and international standards.

The program will be initiated from 2013 to 2018, Director General of Health Services Dr. Palitha Mahipala said.

The Program will also include future plans for the health services in the country.

Dr. Mahipala has added that he expects to initiate the health plan with the powers vested in him by about 50 acts in a proper and transparent manner.

Accordingly all activities of the health service including purchasing pharmaceuticals will be carried out under a proper system.

The Health Ministry meanwhile declared the week from 10th to 17th of December as the National Health Week - 2012 to bring quality health service for the public.

The Cabinet has approved the proposal made by the Health Minister Maithreepala Sirisena to make the public aware of the healthcare facilities provided by the health services in the country.

Over 100, 000 healthcare workers in different categories with the involvement of the political authorities, religious leaders, public and private sectors, and social entities are expected to participate in the Health Week.
