Sri Lanka Tourism achieves record-breaking 950,000 arrivals in 2012


Achieving another remarkable milestone in the country’s booming tourism industry, Sri Lanka Tourism welcomed the arrival of the record 950,000th tourist in 2012 at the Bandaranaike International Airport today (18).

A passenger will be picked from the charter flight arriving at approximately 8:25 a.m. at the Bandaranaike International Airport Katunayake as the 950,000th tourist by Sri Lanka Tourism, says Daily FT.

The number of tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka went up 15.5% to 80,379 in the month of October 2012, compared to October 2011 which was only 69,563, according to the latest figures released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA).

Sri Lanka reached its 2011 target of 800,000 tourists last year on 19 December. All promotional activities and events in the next couple of years will be aimed at achieving the target number of 2.6 million tourists by 2016, states the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.
