The Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations, Dr. Palitha Kohona and the Permanent Representative of Mauritania to the United Nations Mr. Ahmed Ould Teguedi signed the Joint Communiqué on behalf the two countries.

Dr. Kohona noted that the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries would enhance existing close relations and cooperation in the political, social and economic fields. While agreeing with Dr. Kohona, Mr. Teguedi added that this Joint Communiqué will also significantly contribute to the promotion of cultural relations and people-to-people contact between Mauritania and Sri Lanka.
