EAM establishes new communication link with missions abroad

The External Affairs Ministry yesterday launched a new program that establishes video communication links between the Ministry's consular division and Sri Lankan missions and expatriates abroad.

Launching the new program President Mahinda Rajapaksa spoke with several Sri Lankan embassies via Skype at Temple Trees last evening.

President Rajapaksa spoke with several Sri Lankan ambassadors and obtained updates on matters pertaining to Sri Lankan citizens in those countries.

The new program enables Sri Lankan embassies and Sri Lankan citizens living abroad to contact the consular division of the Ministry directly to seek assistance and obtain information.

Sri Lankan expatriates who need assistance on consular-related matters will be able to contact the Ministry of External Affairs via Skype. The Ministry hopes to soon make the service available 24 hours a day.

Minister of External Affairs Professor G.L. Peiris, Deputy Minister of External Affairs Neomal Perera, Monitoring MP of the External Affairs Ministry Sajin de Vass Gunawardena and Secretary to the External Affairs Ministry Karunatilaka Amunugama were present for the launch.
