The Director General of TRC Anusha Pelpita said the telecommunication levy on internet and broadband services will be reduced by 50 percent from January 01, 2013.

Accordingly, the telecommunication levy will be reduced from 20% to 10%.

The Director General said the tax reduction is implemented under the 2013 budget proposal submitted by the President Mahinda Rajapaksa to promote the use of broadband in the country.

He pointed out that 1.2 million Sri Lankans use internet now in Sri Lanka and the government aims to increase it to three million by 2015.
