President welcomes delegation from the Autonomous Province of Bolzano

President Mahinda Rajapaksa welcomed a delegation headed by the President of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano Dr. Luis Durnwalder at Temple Trees Wednesday (Jan 09) evening.

President Durnwalder and the delegation from the Province are on a week-long visit to Sri Lanka at the invitation of Speaker of Parliament Chamal Rajapaksa.

Bolzano currently funds two projects in Sri Lanka - a tsunami housing scheme in Panadura and a development project at Meegaswewa in Medirigiriya.

The Bolzano delegation is considering investing in another project to build a hotel school in Hambantota, and has inspected three potential sites for the project.

The delegation has traveled to various parts of the island, including Panadura, Hambantota and Polonnaruwa. They have visited the Hambantota harbor and Carrier Service Center, the Mattala airport and the Export Production Village at Tissamaharama while on their tour.

The Bolzano delegation has called on the Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa and attended a dinner hosted by Speaker Rajapaksa.

Other members of the delegation from the Province of Bolzano included the Dr. Thomas Widmann, Minister of the Provincial Government of Skilled Crafts, Industry, Trade, Mobility and Provincial Personnel, Dr. Brigitte Gasser, Director of the Emma Hellenstainer Provincial Vocational School for Catering and Nutritional Professions and Dr. Rudi Dalvai, President of the World Fair Trade Organization.
