Several new projects have been inaugurated in Kilinochchi.
Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa has inaugurated several new projects completed at a cost of Rs. 109 million in the Kilinochchi District Saturday (January 19).
Among the projects completed under the government's Northern Spring (Uthuru Wasanthaya) program are, the rebuilding of the Kilinochchi main post office, and reconstruction of the Dryarukulam tank and bridge and the Kanagambiyayikulam tank.
The Ministry has spent Rs. 50 million on reconstructing the Kilinochchi main post office, which was completely destroyed during the war, and Rs.33 million to reconstruct and repair Dryarukulam tank and bridge.
The reconstruction of the 270 acre-tank will provide relief to 2,000 people and help them to cultivate 110 acres of agricultural land, the Ministry says.
The Kanagambiyayikulam tank has been reconstructed at a cost of Rs. 26 million to serve nearly 150 families in cultivating 90 hectares.
The Minister has also distributed relief assistance worth over Rs. 2 million among 820 families affected by the recent floods in the Kilinochchi District.
