The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office Minister for South Asia, Alistair Burt, who visited Sri Lanka last week, said that there was no evidence of any torture on the Tamil returnees returning to the country. Speaking to the BBC following his two-day visit to Sri Lanka, Minister Burt said that the British authorities probe every claim of torture and if there is any evidence they will be produced to the courts when considering asylum requests. The Sri Lankan government flatly rejects the accusations that Tamil asylum seekers returning to country are subjected to torture. |
