The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources has announced that the permission of Sri Lanka Navy is no longer needed for the fishermen to engage in fishing activities in the country's seas.
Sri Lanka Navy issued a special identity card to the fishermen during the conflict as a measure of national security.
Following the end of conflict the fishermen requested the regulation be revoked to make it easier for them to carry their livelihood.
Accordingly, following the discussions with Sri Lanka Navy, the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources announced that the fisherman's identity card issued by the Ministry is sufficient for sea going.
Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Rajitha Senaratne held talks in this regard with the Commander of Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage.
