President Mahinda Rajapaksa and First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa along with their sons Namal, Yoshitha, Rohitha and other relatives Sunday celebrated the Sinhala and Tamil New Year customs at the President's ancestral home, Carlton House in Tangalle.

After observing the traditional New Year customs, the President visited the People's Bank and Bank of Ceylon branches in Tangalle for Awrudu Ganudenu.

The state oil anointing ceremony for the Sinhala -Hindu New Year will be held at Katharagama Kiri vehera Rajamaha Viharasthanaya under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Chief Incumbent of the Viharaya Venerable Aluthwewa Soratha Nayaka Thero today.
