The 23rd Commonwealth Heads of Government Conference (CHOGM) would be held as planned in Sri Lanka, Chairman of the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG), Dr. Dipu Moni announced after a meeting of the CMAG in London yesterday.
BBC quoted Dr. Moni saying that the decision to hold the Summit in Sri Lanka was taken by the Heads Government and that CMAG could not overtrun it.
Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma said that he was satisfied with the progress made by the Sri Lankan government in preparing to hold the Summit between November 15 – 17.
He said that no member government had indicated that it wishes to change the venue.
Highlighting the participation of Sri Lanka in next week's Commonwealth workshop on reconciliation, the Secretary General said sharing the experience of other countries in reconciliation at the workshop will give further impetus to what the Commonwealth can do in partnership with Sri Lanka.
