Japanese Deputy PM due here


Deputy Prime Minister of Japan, Taro Aso, will visit Sri Lanka from May 1 to 2 May,as a follow up to the visit of President Mahinda Rajapaksa to Tokyo in March this year, the Japanese Embassy in Colombo said.

Parliamentary Senior Vice Minister of Finance Ms. Yuko Obuchi will also travel to Sri Lanka with the Deputy premier.

During their visit Mr. Aso and Ms. Obuchi will call on President Rajapaksa to discuss bilateral relations with a view to further strengthening the long-standing ties between the two countries and will also visit the Colombo Port and Colombo Dockyard.

The Japanese Government provided financial assistance for upgrading and expansion of the Colombo Port.

Colombo Dockyard this year marks its 20th anniversary of partnership with Onomichi Dockyard Co. Ltd. Of Japan.
