The total number of tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka went up 7.7 to 98,155 in March 2013 while the figure was only 91,102 in 2012 March, according to the latest figures released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.
Figures showed an increase in the number of arrivals from Western Europe, Eastern Europe, East Asia, Australasia and North America.
Tourists from Western Europe, the traditional tourist generating market, rose 10.5 percent to 44,008 in March 2013. The number of visitors from France went up 7.0 percent to 6,973, those from Netherlands up 12.8 percent to 3,119 and from Germany up 16.3 percent to 9,145.
Eastern Europe visitors rose to 19.0 percent to 9,635 with tourists from Russia up by 38.0 percent to 4,143, from Ukraine up 67.0 percent to 3,092.
Tourists from East Asia rose 12.1 percent to 11,008 in March 2013. The number of visitors from China (P.R.) went up 53.1 percent to 2,208, those from Japan up 43.6 percent to 2,515 and from Korea (South) up 31.8 percent to 850.
Arrivals from Australasia went up 26.1 percent to 4,358 and from North America up by 15.1 percent to 5,517. U.S.A. visitors increased 28.9 percent to 3,019.
