Sri Lanka gearing up to host 2017 Asian Youth Games |

Secretary to the President Mr. Lalith Weeratunga presided over a discussion yesterday (7) at the Presidential Secretariat on Sri Lanka's preparation to host the third Asian Youth Games in 2017 in Hambantota.
Mr. Weeratunga being the chair of the organizing committee evaluated preparatory work conducted so far.
Special emphasis was laid on the duties assigned to various institutions and it was agreed that Sri Lanka to be developed in all spheres on the sideline of the event.
Tourism promotion should be a priority of the agenda, the Secretary said adding the upcoming international event will be a great opportunity to showcase Sri Lanka's rich culture.
Participants also discussed host of issues including traveling, accommodation and conference facilities.
Asian Youth Games will be the biggest sporting event to be hosted by Sri Lanka.
The 2017 Asian Youth Games, the junior version of the Asian Games, will see the participation of over 5,000 sportsmen and women vying for honours in 12 sports disciplines, representing 45 countries.
Secretary to the Ministry of Sports, Anura Jayawickrema, President of the National Olympic Committee, Hemasiri Fernando, officials of the Finance Ministry and representatives of the security forces also joined the discussion.
