The National Disaster Management Center (NDMC) in coordination with the District Secretariat Divisions is taking all necessary measures to support those affected by floods. According to the NDMC situation report almost 37,000 people belonging to over 9,100 families were still being affected by the rainy weather as at yesterday noon.
It said 4,962 people belonging to 1,281 families had been evacuated to safer locations. Gampaha and Colombo districts were the most affected districts by the inclement weather.
About 34,000 people belonging to 8,300 families had been affected in Wattala, Katana, Kelaniya, Biyagama and Mahara in the Gampaha district, while about 3,200 people belonging to 820 families had been affected in Colombo, Kotte, Kolonnawa and Thibirigasyaya in the Colombo district due to floods.
DMC Deputy Director of Media Sarath Lal Kumara stated the Centre is ready to take immediate measures at any disaster situation to save people and property.
Meanwhile,the Meteorology Department stated the low pressure area still persists in the east of Sri Lanka and located about 800km to the east of Hambantota.
