A state ceremony to mark the 260th anniversary of the establishment of the Siam Nikaya Upasampada in Sri Lanka will be held at the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy today under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The ceremony has been jointly organized by the Buddhasasana Ministry, Buddhist Affairs Department, and the Ministries of Culture and the Arts and External Affairs under the guidance of the Most Ven Mahanayake theras of the Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters.

Thailand Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will make an official visit to Sri Lanka later this month and Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in August to participate in the culmination of Siam Upasampada celebrations.
