Reconstruction work of Kattankudi mosque commenced

Reconstruction of Kattankudi Meera Jumma Mosque in Batticaloa has commenced.

The LTTE attacked the mosques on August 3, 1990 and killed 103 Muslim devotees.

The Secretary of the Mosques Fund A.J. Aneez Ahamed has told the BBC Sinhala Service 10 million rupees have been allocated for the repairs and the repair work of the mosque was delayed so long due to lack of funds.

The authorities have decided to leave the bullet holes and pock marks made by the shooting and bomb attack to remind the public of atrocities committed by the LLTE on Muslim people in the East.

The administration of the mosque hopes to complete the repairs before the Ramadan this year.
