Sir Ian Botham to walk across Sri Lanka in November

Former cricket captain of England and the cricket commentator Sir Ian Botham announced that he would hold an eight day walk in Sri Lanka in November.

The walk aims to raise funds for the Indian Ocean Disaster Relief (IODR) charity established in the wake of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami.

The walk will begin on November 01 from Mankulam in the Northern Province and it will end on November 08 at Seenigama Devale temple.

Botham initiated his social work in Sri Lanka immediately after the tsunami on December 26, 2004.

Sir Botham is a member of the Laureus World Sports Academy, a unique association of the greatest living sports legends, who volunteer their time to support the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation which works to improve the lives of children around the world.

Funds will be raised in this event to ensure that disadvantaged children in Sri Lanka and around the world have access to vital sports activities to help them improve their lives, organizers say.
