Govt clears tax anomalies


The import duty on vehicle tyres excluding those of buses, vehicle parts and dairy products including butter has also been revised from yesterday, the Finance Ministry said.

It said the decision was taken to help the development of domestic industries particularly those related to light engineering, dairy products and tyre manufacturing.

Meanwhile, the total tax payable for the importation of single cabs was also revised to correct an anomaly on the taxing of such vehicles.

Excise duty on liquor has also been increased from yesterday. Accordingly the price of a litre of arrack will be increased by Rs.25 to 30 while a litre of beer will be increased by Rs. 10.

Prices of cigarettes have been increased by Rs.2 and Rs.3 with effect from yesterday. Accordingly, the price of low-end brands has been increased by Rs. 2, and high-end brands by Rs.3
