Pakistan assures Sri Lanka of full cooperation in defence production sector

 

The Pakistan government has assured Sri Lanka full cooperation in the defence Production sector.

Pakistan's Federal Minister for Defence Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain has assured Sri Lanka's High Commissioner in Islamabad, Air Chief Marshal (Retd) Jayalath Weerakkody that all bilaterally important matters will be looked after with keen interest to improve and further strengthen the brotherly ties between the two countries.

Federal Minister has given this assurance when the Sri Lankan diplomat called on the Pakistani Minister at his office on Wednesday, the official news agency APP reported.

The High Commissioner has congratulated the Minister on his success in Elections 2013 and also the winning of presidential election by PML (N)'s candidate Mumnoon Hussain.

The two sides have discussed further enhancing the matters of cooperation in Defence Production sector although a collaborative effort is already underway in the field of communication.

The High Commissioner has said that Sri Lanka looks forward to benefitting from the communication related defence products and equipment produced and offered by Pakistan.

High Commissioner Weerakkody has expressed his appreciation to the Minister for his full support and keen interest in facilitating Sri Lanka at all forums and resolved that the friendship between the two countries would further grow and develop.

The Pakistani Minister has invited the Sri Lankan cricket team to visit Pakistan and assured that complete facilitation and fool proof security would be provided to the visiting team. He also assured full personal support in the revival of cricket between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

No international cricket team has toured Pakistan after the Sri Lankan team was attacked by terrorists in Lahore in March 2009.

Pakistan's Secretary Defence Production Lt. Gen (Retd) Tanvir Yahir was also present in the discussions.
