Over 2.5 million flock to see new harbor

Over 2.5 million people have visited the newly opened South Colombo port by last evening.

Chairman of Sri Lanka Ports Authority Dr. Priyath Bandu Wickrama said that over three million people will visit the harbor when the opened days end today.

He further said that a decision would be taken tomorrow whether it would be kept open for more days for public view.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared open the Chinese-built Colombo-South Harbor on August 05. The new harbor is the only port in South Asia with deep water terminal for mega container ships.

The harbor was opened for public view on August 08. Long queues of people of all walks of life were seen visiting the new port happily, the Chairman of the Ports Authority said. The crowd appeared to be increasing due to ongoing the school vacations.

Large crowds gathered like this in recent times to visit the other new development projects also.
