President Mahinda Rajapaksa Sunday (18) declared open another housing project constructed with the funds of the 'Api Wenuwen Api' program for the war veterans and families of fallen soldiers in Nuwara Eliya.
The housing project of 102 houses opened by the President in the Nuwara Eliya District today is the 13th phase of the "Api Wenuwen Api" program.
Symbolizing the project, the President handed over the house built for Sri Lanka Air Force Sergeant H.M.U.K. Herath at Rikillagaskada in Poramadulla of Nuwara Eliya District
The President also handed over the keys to houses built for W.S. Bandara of the Air Force and W.S.M. Weerakoon of the Navy. The keys of the other houses were handed over symbolically to Ranaviru families at a function held at the Poramadulla Central College.
Service personnel received houses in Nuwara Eliya included 57 members of the Army, 27 from the Navy and 18 from the Air Force.
Addressing the gathering Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga said the government is committed to achieve justice to the war heroes who dedicated their lives to eliminate terrorism from the country.
The President also distributed school equipment to the students of Rahathungoda Maha Vidyalaya in Poramadulla.
During the visit to the district the President also inaugurated the carpeted and upgraded Poramadula-Pallebowala road. The 9 - kilo meter road was renovated at a cost of 228 million rupees.
Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Governor of the Central Province Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva, C.B. Ratnayake, Navin Dissanayake and senior defence officials also participated in the occasion.
