President Mahinda Rajapaksa said that when the good work done by the ministers is properly projected through media, it would boost the image of the government. He lamented that most of the development activities go unnoticed and only the sensational news pertaining to the ministers hogs limelight.
Addressing media secretaries of the ministries at the Temple Trees today (August 29), President emphasized the imperative need to project the developmental activities undertaken by the ministries through media as it would enhance the awareness of them among the masses and, in turn boost the positive image of the government. He said the media secretaries have an important role to play in dissemination of information to the country.
He said the laptop is the new tool of information that would open doors to new technological publicity windows such as facebook and twitter and urged the media secretaries to make use of the new tools to build the image of the ministers and the government.
Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, stating the importance of the media, said that a politician’s image could be built or destroyed by media. “Media secretaries of the ministers have the responsibility of image building by highlighting the development activities of the ministers through media.
Secretary to the Media and Information Ministry, Dr Charitha Herath was also present on this occasion.
