Russian assistance to develop agro-industries


Russia has come forward to assist Sri Lanka in the development of agro-industries. It has agreed to provide infrastructure facilities to develop Sri Lankaís agro-industries, including vegetable and fruit cultivation and production of liquid milk.

This offer has been made by the Russian Federationís Deputy Agricultural Minister Ilya Shestkov when he met the Minister of Economic Development Mr Basil Rajapaksa at his Ministry recently.

Both Ministers have discussed matters related to live stock development, dairy farming and distributing best breeds of cows among dairy farmers to obtain maximum benefits from the dairy industry.

Senior Government officials of the Russian Federation and Sri Lankan Government officials representing the relevant areas have also attended the meeting.
