Postal voting begins


Postal voting in the ten Districts of the Northern, Northwestern and Central Provincial Council election commenced today.

According to Elections Department 111, 383 government servants were eligible to cast postal votes at the government sanctioned state offices, including camps of the Security Forces, Civil Defence Force (CDF) and police stations.

Those who are unable to cast their votes on Sept. 09 and 10 can do so at Assistant Election Commissioners’ offices on Sept. 12, 13, 14.

According to the Elections Department, the majority of postal voters, 46,374, were in the Kurunegala District and there were 250 centres in the District.

More than 400 observers from several local election monitors including People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL), Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) and Network for Election Monitoring by Intellectuals for Human Rights (NEM IHR) will be deployed at the postal voting centres.
