Chamber of Tourism and Industry hails Oluvil Port opening

The Chamber of Tourism and Industry has welcomed the opening of the Oluvil Harbour last week.

In a statement, the Chamber said the newly-constructed Oluvil Harbour which was declared open by President Mahinda Rajapaksa will boost the economic development in the Eastern Province. The harbour, once it is operational, has the potential of connecting the Eastern Province to the maritime network in Sri Lanka and to the region in general.

Apart from economic development the harbour will also attract local and foreign investors who are interested in industries and the service sector. This will generate employment in various sectors offering employment opportunities to the youth in the region.

"The Chamber of Tourism is optimistic that opening of the Oluvil Harbour and the government's efforts to improve infrastructure facilities will also have a positive impact on tourism in the region," the statement said.
