Muslims indebted to President for creating peaceful environment Fowzie


The Muslim community in Sri Lanka is indebted to President Mahinda Rajapaksa for creating an environment where all communities can live in peace and harmony, Senior Minister for Urban Affairs, A. H. M. Fowzie said.

He was speaking at a press conference at the SLFP Headquarters in Colombo yesterday. Senior Minister Fowzie said the government is very confident of winning the forthcoming Provincial Council elections.

The Minister added that the Muslims who were performing their religious rites at Kathankudy mosque were massacred by the LTTE in the past, but the situation has changed today with the elimination of terrorism. A mosque is being built at Kathankudy with government funds under the directions of President Rajapaksa.

He further said that Muslims in Sri Lanka are a peaceful people and have no links with any other extremist or terrorist groups. Environment and Renewable Energy Minister Susil Premjayanth and Youth Affairs and Skills development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma were also present at the occasion.
