The number of tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka went up 26.1% to 100,224 in the month of August 2013, compared to August 2012 which was only 79,456, according to the latest figures released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA).
711,446 tourists arrived in first 8 months of 2013.
Figures showed an increase in the number of arrivals from Western Europe, East Asia and North America.
The number of visitors from Western Europe rose by 19.3 percent (38,951) with tourists from France up 23.1 percent (6,738), U.K. up 6.9 percent (12,353), the number of visitors from Switzerland is 1,303 and Germany up 35.0 percent (8,318), according to the SLTDA.
Arrivals from East Asia increased 33.4 percent (15,544), with Japan arrivals to 4,407, and those from Korea (South) up to 810.
Arrivals from North America went up by 12.6 percent to 5,638 within the month of August 2013. The number of visitors from South Africa went up by 8.8 percent to 271.
Tourist arrivals in the country increased sharply from May 2009 after defeating 30 years of terrorism.
