President and UN Secretary-General hold discussions in New York


President Mahinda Rajapaksa and United Nations Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-moon met Tuesday (24) evening (NY time) on the sidelines of 68th Session of the UN General Assembly.

The President and Mr. Ban spoke about a range of issues including the post-conflict situation in Sri Lanka, the elections that were recently held in the Northern Province, the implementation of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) and ways in which Sri Lanka and the United Nations can continue work together.

The Minister of External Affairs Prof. G.L. Peiris, Monitoring MP of the Ministry of External Affairs Mr. Sajin De Vass Gunawardena, Secretary to the President Mr. Lalith Weeratunga, Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations Dr. Palitha Kohona and Additional Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs Mrs. Kshenuka Seneviratne were also present.
