Over 25,000 public officials have received Tamil Language training during the first six months of this year.
The Ministry of National Languages and Social Integrity said that a special 10-day long training course was offered to doctors, members of the Maha Sangha studying in Pirivenas and the parliamentary staff.
The programme guided by the Minister of National Languages and Social Integration Vasudeva Nanayakkara is conducted by the National Institute of Language Education and Training (NILET) in 84 regional centers throughout the country, the Ministry said.
The Ministry said special Tamil Language training courses have also been organized for the staff of the Local Government and Pradeshiya Sabha institutions.
Under the government's trilingual policy state sector public employees are required to be bilingual. Sri Lanka has set a target to make the country a trilingual nation by the year 2020.
