SLTB to operate luxury buses on Colombo-Katunayake Expressway

The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) plans to deploy luxury buses for passenger transportation on the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway once it is opened.

The new expressway linking Bandaranaike International Airport to Colombo will be opened on the 27th of this month by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The SLTB will deploy12 luxury buses on the Expressway. Six of the buses will operate between the airport and Colombo and others will ferry passengers between the airport and Negombo.

The new expressway is expected to cut down the travel time from Colombo to the Airport to about 15 minutes from the current one hour, highway authorities say.

The 25.8 kilometer-long expressway, built at a cost of US$ 291 million with a loan from China, is part of the highway network connecting the already functioning Southern Expressway, proposed Northern Expressway and the Colombo Outer Circular Highway that is under construction.

The Airport Expressway will be connected with the Outer Circular Highway (OCH) at Kerawalapitiya Interchange.

When completed the road network will provide fast and easy access to the country's north and south and will avoid traffic when reaching the capital Colombo.
