President Mahinda Rajapaksa will declare open the renovated Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) Thursday, October 24.
The BMICH was closed for more than a year for repair. The repair was sponsored by the government of China.
BMICH was built in mid 1970s as a gift of the government of China in memory of late Prime Minister S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike. The venue held the 1976 Non-Aligned Movement conference.
Most of the main conference activities and sessions of the Commonwealth Heads of the Government meeting (CHOGM) will take place at the BMICH from November 10 to 17.
BMICH is Sri Lanka's premier location for international meetings, plenary sessions, trade and academic shows, and other large-scale events.
