Prime Minister of Tonga calls on the President


Saile ‘ataongo Tu’ivakano, Prime Minister of Tonga, a South Pacific Island, who is currently in Colombo attending CHOGM 2013 called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Water’s Edge this afternoon (No. 16).

Prime Minister Tu’ivakano said that he was happy to attend the well organized CHOGM 2013 and congratulated President Rajapaksa on his assuming the office of the Chairperson of the Commonwealth for the next two years.

After giving a brief account of his country’s affairs, he expressed the desire to improve relations with Sri Lanka.

President Rajapaksa while thanking the Prime Minister of Tonga for attending CHOGM 2013 welcomed the idea of strengthening relations with the Pacific Island.

Prof. G. L. Peiris, Minister of External Affairs, Sajin de Vaas Gunwardena, Monitoring MP to the Ministry of External Affairs, Secretary to the President, Lalith Weeratunga, Karunatilleke Amunugama, Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs, and Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner in Asutralia were also present at the discussion.
