Inaugurating direct air links between Sri Lanka and Seychelles, the first flight of Mihin Lanka touched down at the Seychelles International Airport in Mahe on last Saturday (16).
An A 321 airbus carrying Mihin Lanka travelers and representatives of Mihin Lanka management took off from Colombo on the a 3-hour and 43-minute flight to Mahe on Saturday.
Many government officials including Seychelles Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer, Sherin Naiken, and the Principal Secretary for Tourism Anne Lafortune were at Mahe airport to welcome the travelers to Seychelles.
The flight will connect two of the most exotic islands complimenting each other's air services in the African Continent, the Indian Ocean and beyond.
Ms. Naiken has explained that Seychelles Tourism Board is for some time trying to attract travelers from the Far East and the flight cost and time effectiveness of Sri Lanka Airlines would help to lure in new visitors from countries like Japan, China, and India.
The first flight of Mihin Lanka which codeshares with the national carrier SriLankan Airlines, is the first step in successfully tapping the Far Eastern market, the official has said.
Mihin Lanka, with two weekly flights to Seychelles on Wednesdays and Saturdays, is set to offer holiday makers the beauty, pristine beaches and adventure that are truly the Seychelles.
The Mihin Lanka flight will depart Colombo for the Seychelles at 1330 hrs and arrive at the Seychelles at 1610 hrs. The departure from the Seychelles will be at 1710 hrs and arrive back in Colombo at 2300 hrs.
