Sri Lanka attracts US$ 870 mn of FDIs


Sri Lanka has received US$ 870 million in Foreign Direct Investment during the first nine months of the year 2013, from 55 projects which have commenced commercial operations in the country.

This is a 41-pct increase over the same period of last year, said BOI Spokesman Dilip Samarasinghe.

Majority of the investments have come into manufacturing sector amounting to 31-pct of the total quantum of FDIs received.

Port sector has received 19-pct, telecom 17-pct and property development has garnered 13-pct out of the total FDIs realized during the first three quarters of 2013.

China ranks as the single biggest investor bringing in 24-pct of the total investments.

Hong Kong follows with 12%, Singapore with 10%, Netherlands 8-pct, Malaysia and UK bringing in 7%, each, respectively and India with 5%.
