Govt seeks public suggestions to revise Establishments Code

The government has called on the public to send in their suggestions to revise the existing Establishments Code which governs the conduct of public officials.

Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne has said that the Ministry has appointed a committee to study the required revisions to the Establishments Code that was issued in 1985.

The Minister told the media that revisions to the Code have been required for a long time.

Explaining that revising certain aspects and removing some impediments in the Code could help make a more efficient government service in the country, the Minister noted that the committee will study and propose the revisions that need to be introduced to the Establishments Code.

Although the Code has been modified periodically, there have not been any structural changes introduced to the system so far and the latest move is expected to improve the efficiency of the country's government service.
