Programme on popular sea bathing sites

The Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) is to commence testing water of popular sea bathing locations along the coast.

Over population in the coastal areas and developing the hotel industry in these areas poses a threat to the coastal environment thereby the pollution making the water unsuitable for people to bath.

Therefore, according to the Environment Ministry, under the new program more tests will be done to identify the pollutants and action will be taken to reduce their inflow into the sea.

People will be educated through awareness programs that will be conducted using the coastal areas for recreation activities and livelihood. Also action will be taken to provide infrastructure facilities for local and foreign tourists visiting the locations.
