Only 23,568 IDPs are to be resettled

 

There are only 23,568 internally displaced persons (IDPs) remaining to be resettled in Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Trincomalee districts as at 30th, November 2013.

According to the Ministry of Resettlement 757,795 IDPs in the North and East have been resettled so far. This includes the 297,000 IDPs, who were displaced during the final phase of the conflict.

4410 persons of 1,228 families remain in Open Welfare Centres in Jaffna while 15,355 persons of 4,650 families living with friends and relatives. The ministry also said that 1,140 persons of 374 families living with friends and relatives in Kilinochchi district.

Only 871 persons of 281 families still remain in Open Welfare Centres at Trincomalee while 1,792 persons of 561 families living with friends and relatives.

The following charts show how the number of the IDPs resettled in Northern and Eastern provinces respectively.
