Social support for Single Parent Families
Awareness on micro enterprises and self-employment opportunities


The Ministry of Social Services has taken action to initiate a programme to empower single parent families in the country. Under the Single Parent Families Development programme of the Ministry, awareness on micro enterprises and self-employment opportunities provided to them.

Under the above initiative, financial assistance for Self-employment have been provided to 325 Single Parents in the Northern Province spending Rs. 3,543,000.00 and to 74 individuals in the Eastern Province spending Rs.738, 000.00, under the post-war recovery program.

In addition, 477 applications for financial assistance for Self-employment from the North and 290 applications from the Eastern province have also been received to date which are being processed currently.

In line with the recommendations of the LLRC, the Ministry initiated this project.
