President Mahinda Rajapaksa directed the Education Ministry to absorb Dhamma School teachers who have passed Buddhist Dharmacharya Examination, to the teaching service at national schools.
Accordingly, Dhamma School teachers who have passed GCE Advanced Level and the Buddhist Dharmacharya Examinations will be eligible to apply for the teaching service. They also should complete five year volunteer service as Dhamma School teachers.
One thousand Dhamma School teachers with the Buddhist Dharmacharya qualification were yesterday (Feb. 18) awarded appointments as Teacher Assistants by the President at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH).
The President also advised the Ministry, who have qualified in the Dharmacharya examination be absorbed as teachers.
The newly appointed Teacher Assistants were recruited after conducting a written test and interviews. They have been recruited from all areas of the country to teach Buddhism in in schools.
This is the first time teachers of Dhamma Schools were absorbed to the teacher service.
