Coconut milk export earnings go up


Earnings from the export of coconut milk have increased by 41 percent during the last year, announced the Ministry of Coconut Development and Janatha Estate.

Accordingly, Sri Lanka has exported 7,686 metric tons of coconut milk during the period january to November, 2012.

According to a ministry spokesman, the amount exported during the corresponding period last year was 11, 549 metric tons. The total earnings from the export of coconut milk is Rs. 1, 444 million, while the total earnings last year were Rs. 2, 030 million.

Accordingly, a 41 percent increase is registered in the earnings achieved from the export of coconut milk last year in comparison to the preveious year.

Coconut milk is exported in liquid and powder form. Thrity five coconut based products are mainly exported while the annual export earnings exceed Rs. 47 billion, the spokesman said.
