Son of assassinated Tamil leader meets President

 

Dr. Amirthalingam Baheerathan, the son of the former leader of Tamil United Liberation Front, who was brutally assassinated by the LTTE, called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday (18) at the Temple Trees.

Dr. Baheetharan praised the country's development brought under the President's leadership and said that the maximum benefits of this development have reached everyone irrespective of their race, religion or regional differences.

His father, Appapillai Amirthalingam and another Tamil politician of the party, V. Yogeswaran were shot and killed by the LTTE militants on 13 July 1989.

Minister Douglas Devananda and Deputy Minister Gethanjana Gunawardena were also present at the occasion.
